Patnaik has been elected BJD President for eight consecutive times since the party was founded in 1997.
He was last elected in February 2020.
Patnaik mentioned his nomination paper on his 28th anniversary of his father, Biju Patnaik, taking the region as an example, the name of Biju Janata dal-is.
Patnaik said after submitting the document that the BJD government between 2000 and 2024 had made significant developments in Odisha and recognized the state at the national and international levels.
Patnaik said without directly naming the BJP: “Now, some people are deliberately trying to devalue the contribution and sacrifice of our eldest son. They are also trying to change history. But they should remember that history reflects a country over time. Over time, it cannot change anyone’s wishes.” Odisha BJP President Manmohan Samal said: “We have great respect for Biju Patnaik. We pay tribute to him on the anniversary of his death. Patnaik’s remarks were politically motivated, not those of the five former chief minister.”
