Patiala broke out in controversy about the singer and actor Gippy Grewal’s recent release of the film Akar: Unintentional. Patiala police detained Baba Bakshish Singh who protested the film. Baba Bakshish Singh said he and his committee have been opposed to films that portray Sikh characters in inappropriate ways. He claims that the Sikh characters in the film are shown as drinking, consuming tobacco or “Mundit” (hairless), an insult to Sikh history and tradition. He said that if the film was based on Sikh fighters such as Hari Singh Nalua or Jassa Singh Ahluwalia, the person who played should be shown with full respect and dignity.

Baba Bakshish Singh made it clear that he would not allow such a movie to play even if he had to make any sacrifices for it. He claimed that the government and the government are supporting filmmakers with this motivation. He shared that today’s Hindu gods and goddesses played on today’s stage and will receive the same treatment to Sikh heroes tomorrow.

He once said that there would be a glass of wine on the one hand and Chola on the other hand, which would be unacceptable to them. He said his organization has written 150 letters to the film’s actors and producers, urging them not to make such films in Sikh roles. Nevertheless, films are intentionally made on such controversial topics and to promote controversy by investing money.
