PCB refutes financial loss claims, revealing record revenue for 2025 champion trophy

PCB denied reports of financial losses hosting the ICC Championship Trophy 2025 and said the competition actually helped increase the board’s revenue.

Aamir Mir, spokesman for the Pakistan Cricket Council (PCB), and Chief Financial Officer (CFO) Javed Murtaza have delayed their objections to hosting the ICC Championship trophy, resulting in financial losses. They stressed that the competition was actually a major contributor to board revenue.

At a recent press conference, PCB officials spoke about rumors in the Indian media and confidently pointed out that the board made Rs 3 billion from the event.

“All the fees for the tournament are paid by the ICC,” Mir said. “The PCB generates revenue through Gate Money and ticket sales, and after the review, we expect an additional Rs 3 billion from the ICC.”

A spokesman announced that the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) will surpass its initial goal of earning Rs 2 billion from the ICC championship trophy. The achievement is attributed to PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi, as he worked to improve the financial position of the board. It was revealed that total revenue for the fiscal year 2023-24 reached an impressive Rs 1,000 crore, an increase of 40%.

“With this financial strength, the PCB is in the top three of the world’s top three wealthiest cricket committees,” he said. “The board also paid Rs 40 million in taxes.”

Mir emphasized the rapid renovation of the stadium under Naqvi’s guidance and noted that the PCB successfully completed a substantial upgrade in just four months.

“After 29 years, a large stadium upgrade was carried out to ensure compliance with international standards,” he said.

In view of concerns about the income of domestic participants, Mill announced that NAQVI chose an earlier salary cut decision.

As for the PCB’s absence in the final stage of the ICC championship trophy, officials said they are waiting for detailed explanations from the ICC.

Additionally, PCB revealed that all financial information related to the revenue and expenses of the competition will be published on its website to ensure transparency.
