Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said during a violent background (Amendment) protest in various places in West Bengal on Monday (April 15, 2025) that everyone has the right to demonstrate peacefully, but no one has the law in their hands.

“Everyone has a democratic right to protest peacefully when permitted. I will ask people not to take the law into their own hands. To protect the law, we have custodians and do not need any demons.”

She also urged people not to succumb to any provocation. “Please don’t indulge in non-religious activities in the name of religion,” she said.

Ms Banerjee said some people not only criticized her because she visited plans for various religions, but also changed her last name.
