IAS official Tushar Singla tried UPSC on his second attempt with Air 86, demonstrating dedication, strategic preparation and wise guesswork.

The UPSC Civil Service Examination (CSE) is known as one of the toughest exams in India. Every year, hundreds of thousands of candidates dream of becoming IAS, IPS, IFS or IRS officials, but only a few succeed. IAS official Tushar Singla is among the guys who cracked the challenging exam, clearing the UPSC CSE in his second attempt.

Tushar Singla is a smart student who graduated from IIT Delhi’s Electrical Engineering degree. Later, he graduated from Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) with a PA OST who works in public administration. He was determined to take the 2013 UPSC exam.

In an interview, Tushar shared details about his UPSC preparation journey. He mentioned that his preparations were divided into phases. He started his studies in May 2013 and continued until November 2013. After that, he took a break and did not study between December 2013 and June 25, 2014. He resumed preparations on June 28, 2014 and focused entirely on the exams scheduled for November 2014. According to his opinion, the past five months are the most important, the most important period of his preparation, and the period of preparation.

Tushar cleared the exam with an impressive All India ranking of 86 in his second attempt. While sharing his preliminaries strategy, he said he tried 85 questions in Paper I, and 78 questions in the second paper. He added that there is no “ideal” problem to try. Instead, success depends on your ability to answer them. He even tried to completely determine his uncertainty by eliminating wrong choices and using intelligent guesses.

Tushar is also known for his personal life. He married Navjot Simi, an IPS official who belongs to the 2017 batch. The couple ended in 2021.

In his career, Tushar served as a subdivision official in Uluberia. Recently, he has served as the chief general manager of Bihar Development Mission in the Cabinet Secretariat.

His story continues to inspire many UPSC aspiring people across the country.
