MLC Amer Ali Khan urges secular and democratic forces to oppose the WAQF bill

MLC Amer Ali Khan held a meeting in Kamareddy on Tuesday.

Terming the recently amended Waqf Act 2025 a direct assault on the constitutional and religious rights of Muslims in the county, Congress MLC Amer Ali Khan said that the legislation violates Article 25, which guarantees the Right to Freedom of Religion, and accused the BJP-led central government of using the law as a tool to erode autonomy and allow encroachments on Waqf lands worth lakhs of crores.

Mr Khan said at a public meeting in Kamareddy on Tuesday that the bill was a “harsh measure” aimed at seizing WAQF property and depriving Muslims of personal legal and religious autonomy.

He added: “It’s not only about land or property. It’s a deliberate harm to the dignity of Muslims and the soul of our constitution.”

Mr Khan said the WAQF Amendment was not only a legal attack, but a political move to weaken the Muslim community. He urged: “We cannot remain silent when removing the protection. Let us raise, protest and take back the idea of India.”

“Today is us. Tomorrow, this may be any other community,” he said, calling on the unity of all secular and democratic forces.

Mr Khan said the WAQF Amendment was not only a legal attack, but a political move to weaken the Muslim community.

Referring to widespread poverty among Muslims, especially in Hyderabad, he raised serious questions about the effectiveness of the last government effort.

“BRS said it cost Rs 120,000 crore on the welfare of ethnic minorities. But why do Muslims still live in poverty and miserable conditions?” he asked.

He reiterated that the Congress will fight against the people politically and legally.

Congressional MLC held a two-day protest rally for the 2025 WAQF Amendment, which began on Monday in Adirabad, passed Nizamabad and reached the end at a massive public meeting held by Kamaridi, with thousands of people attending the massive public meeting.
