The propaganda is amid the extreme tensions in bilateral relations, which is caused by the allegations of Canadian accomplices against India in the 2023 murder of Hardeep Singh Nijjar, a Canadian nationality and a high-profile Harlistan separatist. New Delhi has explicitly dismissed the allegations, which have led to mutual expulsion and freezing of diplomatic relations by diplomats.
Canada has the country’s largest Sikh population outside India, and Ottawa’s reaction to pro-Kalistan activities has been a persistent source of controversy. India has been pushing for stricter action against the separatist movement, which was banned in the country and has been linked to terrorist acts such as the assassination of Indian Prime Minister and the bombing of Indian Airlines in 1985.
