PM Modi entrusts Vizhinjam Seaport on May 2

Thiruvananthapuram: The Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) has informed the port authorities of its schedule. Operations of Vizhinjam port began in December last year for commercial purposes.

Commissioning is when a record-breaking cargo transport occurs at the port. Since commercial operations began in December, many large cargo ships, including motherships, have arrived at the port of Vizhinjam. However, the formal dedication ceremony was held according to the Prime Minister’s convenience plan.

The port has welcomed 250 ships and handled containers of over 500,000 Teus (25-foot equivalent units). With rapid progress, this dream project in Kerala is being dedicated to the country. Vizhinjam has reached record levels since the start of shipment of goods, handling more than 100,000 containers per month.

This success can be attributed to the port’s implementation of the country’s first automated and semi-automated crane system. The port already has more than 260 ships, including the world’s largest vessel MSC Türkiye and MSC’s Cloud Gerardet. Last month alone, Vizhinjam moored 53 ships.
