Is the Trump administration soon announcing separate tariffs on electronics and semiconductors? |World News

US tariffs: According to Reuters, U.S. Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick said in an interview with ABC on Sunday that smartphones, computers and some other electronic products will suffer “single tariffs”, as well as semiconductors.
He added that the separate tariffs could come into effect within one month. The information was excluded from the “reversal” tariffs after the Trump administration said Friday that the information would exclude electronic products such as smartphones and laptops.
According to PTI, tariff exemptions could help lower prices for unmade popular consumer electronics in the United States. In addition, this will benefit tech giants such as Apple, Samsung and Nvidia.
According to media reports, Lutnik said in an interview that the government’s decision to exempt some electronic items was temporarily announced. He informed electronic devices that could be effective in the next few months and included reciprocal tariffs and a separate “semiconductor tariff.”
He also asserted that the United States needs electronic products made in the United States itself, which will make them less reliant on Southeast Asian countries such as China.
Smartphones, computers, laptops are exempt from our “reciprocal” tariffs
U.S. Customs and Border Protection says items such as smartphones, laptops, hard drives, tablet monitors, and some chips will be eligible for exemptions. Machines used to make semiconductors are also excluded.
The exclusion means they will not be subject to the current 145% tariff imposed on China or the baseline tariffs elsewhere, PTI reported.
U.S. reciprocal tariffs
Since his term, Trump has reiterated his stance on tariff reciprocity, stressing that the U.S. will match tariffs imposed by other countries, including India, to ensure fair trade. After that, in early April, Donald Trump announced reciprocal tariffs in several countries.
He claimed there was an imbalance between the above-mentioned countries and the United States.

Later, the U.S. president stopped 90 days of reciprocity tariffs in dozens of countries that negotiated a trade deal with the government. However, according to ANI, the high reciprocity tariffs imposed on China continue.
