Police demand for syringes suddenly increased in the investigation following an alarm from the owner of the Kozhikode area medical store. Police suspect drug promoters are behind the massive purchase of syringes.
Recently, police reportedly arrested an immigrant worker after tracking a gang that purchased syringes in large quantities from medical stores in the city. He was arrested after the store owner reminded the police of a large purchase.
Police said they have sought cooperation from medical store owners to monitor individuals who are buying sedative medications or syringes in large quantities. They added: “Although sedatives are sold only on doctor’s prescriptions, some people reportedly abused others’ prescriptions to buy these drugs from stores.”
Monitoring of the sales of syringes has only begun recently.
Meanwhile, some medical store owners in the city said they have been closely monitoring the sales of sedative drugs as directed by the health department and law enforcement agencies. They added: “Psychotropic drugs are only sold for prescriptions, which is the authenticity of multiple tests.”
Police said some wholesale medical providers in neighboring countries did not fully follow government guidelines for distributing psychotropic drugs. They have allowed drug promoters across some states to obtain large amounts of these drugs to obtain illegal sales in schools and college students targeted in Kerala.
