India’s largest IT company, TATA Consulting Services (TCS), has appointed Aarthi Subramanian as the new executive director – President and Chief Operating Officer (COO), effective May 1, 2025, according to exchange documents.
According to filing data, Subramanian will hold a new position in the main IT TCS for five years from May 1, 2025 to April 30, 2030. TCS’ move marks Subramanian’s appointment as Subramanian as the company’s first female chief operating officer, as well as a minority of women in the IT department in India.
During her early career, Subramanian joined TATA Consulting Services in 1989 and worked as a graduate intern in 1989, later becoming an analyst and project manager. She then went on to hold an account management position and a senior executive position in IT professional.
Who is Aarthi Subramanian?
Aarthi Subramanian currently serves as the Group Chief Digital Officer for Tata Sons, the sponsor of major holding companies and all TATA companies.
Subramanian has technical and operational experience leading corporate groups in digital, technological and innovative needs in multiple operations areas.
“At Tata Son, she has been ensuring that Tata Group uses digital technology to improve operational efficiency, customer engagement and competitive advantage,” TCS said in the exchange paper.
In education, Aarthi Subramanian holds a bachelor’s degree in computer science and technology from Warangal National Institute of Technology.
Later, she completed her master’s degree in engineering management from the University of Kansas in the United States.
According to the press release, Subramanian completed more than three decades of work at TATA Group as she served as Head of Delivery for TCS Retail and CPG Business Unit, and then TCS Executive Director and Head of Global Delivery Excellence, Governance and Compliance.
Subramanian holds other key positions in the TATA Group, including directors of TCS, Tata Capital and Tata AIA Life Insurance Company.
She also has the director of Infiniti Retail Limited, overseeing the operations of Croma, Tata’s electronic retail division.
Subramanian is also the director of Tata Digital Pvt. According to official data, Ltd., Supermarket Grocery Supplies Pvt Ltd and Tata Unistore Ltd.
In addition to becoming an industry veteran, Subramanian has many other hobbies, such as listening to music, becoming a fitness enthusiast, watching movies and reading books related to management.
