Google hires hundreds of employees in Android, Pixel Group: Report

Google dropped hundreds of employees in its platform and device unit on Thursday, which worked on Android software, Pixel phones and Chrome browsers, and reported on Friday, citing someone who knew the situation directly.
The cuts come after the company’s January acquisition offer to employees of the department, the report said.
“We have been working to become more agile and more efficient since we combined the platform and device team last year, which includes reducing work in addition to the voluntary exit program we provided in January,” a Google spokesperson told the message.
Google did not immediately respond to Reuters’ request for comment.
Bloomberg reported in February that Google had laid off employees in its cloud division, adding that a round of cuts affected only a few teams.
In January 2023, Alphabet announced plans to lay off 12,000 jobs, accounting for 6% of its global workforce.
