Police saves newborn girl from being buried by mother, relative of Pudukottai

In a case of rapid intervention, police rescued a newborn baby girl on Saturday from being buried near Udhayasuriyapuram village within the bounds of the Panayapatti police station in Thirumayam Taluk.

R. Vinodha, 21, a former diploma nursing student at a nursing college in Eripur County, sent a healthy baby girl at her house Saturday morning, according to police. Her premarital child was shocked by the birth of her mother and relatives worried about social stigma and brought the baby to a nearby cemetery with the aim of burial.

An elderly neighbor reminded the local police. Inspector V. Gowri and her team arrived at the scene and rescued the baby, who was taken to the Panayapatti Government Emergency Care Centre. Later, both the baby and the mother were handed over to the Pudukkottai government Raniyar Hospital for treatment.

Panayapatti Village Administrator Senthil Kumar and District Child Protection Officer filed a formal police complaint.

Preliminary surveys show that Vinodha has a relationship with college students. District Child Protection Officer D. Vasanth Kumar told Hindu She has been considered unsuitable for baby care since her mother tried to abandon her child. “The baby is healthy and under the care of two of our staff. Once discharged from the hospital, the baby will be handed over to a professional adoption agency where she is properly cared for.”
