Police suppressing students’ anti-drug encounters sparks anger

Police have sabotaged a large-scale student anti-drug conference held by Smart Islamic Students in Perinthalmanna (May 11), sparking widespread outrage.
A group of police officers led by inspector Susses Sudhakaran were allegedly stopped the meeting because the meeting was about to end at 10.06 pm and organizers had obtained permission until 10 pm
According to reports, Mr. Sudhakaran and his team shouted to the organizers, thousands of students, most of whom were professionals, watched the police act in frustration. After the meeting was stopped, the video of Mr. Sudhakaran mocking students was a hit on social media, sparking further anger.
“This is a drug meeting against the blessing message of our Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan,” said TK Ashraf, Secretary General of the Smart Islamic Student Organization.

He said the way the party was organized was to end before 10 p.m.
Police said they performed their duties and organizers were previously warned not to exceed the 10 pm deadline.
District Police Chief R. Viswanath ordered an investigation into the incident based on individual complaints. Perinthalmanna Dysp has begun asking.
“It’s too early to comment. We are waiting for an inquiry report. Any further action will be based on it,” Mr Viswanath said.
“When the police called us at 10.03 pm to ask us to end, we told them that the ongoing remarks were in progress and that it ended in less than five minutes. Still, their behavior was so serious,” said Dr. Abbas. “It was a pathetic behavior of the police.”

Mr. Ashraf criticized the police’s selective approach, questioning why they had undermined an anti-drug conference while allowing late-night events such as Deejay parties to use drugs and alcohol without intervention.
