Pollachi Sexual Assault Case: Scientific Research, Online Forensics Helps Track Defendants, Survivors

Scientific investigations and online evidence forensics play an important role in investigating Pollachi’s sexual assault case. About 90% of the evidence in this case is essentially digital.

After the arrest of the top five, namely N. Sabarirajan, K. Thirunavukkarasu, M. Sathish and T. vasanthakumar and R. Mani Manivannan Manivannan have discovered a large number of sexual assault videos about mobile phones and other defendants’ electronic phones. Perceived danger, some of them discarded their phones. But the video found helped investigators identify the defendant and survivors.

“A team of three forensic experts used morphological comparisons and other techniques to identify people in the video,” CBI prosecutor V. Surendra Mohan said.

Forensic experts also analyzed metadata of videos and images of Thirunavukkarasu iPhones. They have a GPS location that helps investigators establish crime scenes. These locations from metadata match the locations of the crime scene. Other aspects of the video, such as the article on the Thirunavukkarasu wall in Chinnappapalayam near Pollachi (where most of the sexual assaults take place) also help to determine the crime scene.

Mr Mohan added: “Forensic experts also match the date and time of the metadata video with the call data record.
