As expected, the formalization of the alliance between the BJP and AIADMK has been strongly criticized by DMK President and Chief Minister MK Stalin. He accused AIADMK of seeking to “mortgage” Tamil Nadu’s interests.
However, as part of the NDA, DMK did not expect both sides to come together. However, it makes the DMK’s task even more difficult, as it can no longer be placed on the laurels, as narrow margins can tilt the scales in the 2026 Congress elections.
NDA may get PMK and DMDK boarding, even though the latter leader, Premallatha Vijayakant, decides to play the waiting game.
DMK leader and finance minister Thangam Thennarasu rejected the idea that the AIADMK-BJP alliance will pose a challenge to the DMK front. “them [the AIADMK and the BJP] Trying to give the impression that it is a grand alliance. Instead, it is full of differences. The crack will appear soon. These days, this also reveals the doubles matches of AIADMK. ” he said.
He further said actor politician Vijay has not yet made clear his position, with three competitions set to be held in at least 2026. “This possibility will always benefit DMK. Our alliance is consistent and our government welfare program will further promote our prospects,” he added.
CPI(M) State Secretary P. Shanmugam believes that new developments are unlikely to challenge his party as a consortium of DMK fronts. “The league may not have more friends except for PMK and DMDK, which were previously part of the NDA. But it will lose votes from minority groups, which will be detrimental to the league,” he said.
He believes that the AIADMK-BJP combine will resort to mobilization on the caste line, as BJP leader Nainar Nagenthran was elected as the new president of the party’s state unit, replacing K. Annamalai’s new president. Shanmugam said: “His election is intended to consolidate Mukkulathor’s vote, and Edappadi K. Palaniswami and his support base in the Kongu area are expected to work for the alliance.”
However, the CPM(M) leader acknowledged the counter-temporary factor and said the DMK must offset it by fulfilling all its commitments. He added: “There is enough time. The DMK should take advantage of it and address issues that may be targeted in the election.”
TNCC President K. Selvaperunthagai believes that the decision of AIADMK to form an alliance with the BJP does not strengthen its position, but will confront it. He argued: “The people of Tamil Nadu are fully aware of the anti-Tamil Nadu policy of the CBP government. The Supreme Court’s ruling against Governor RN Ravi is another blow to the BJP. There is almost no factor that works for the AIADMK-BJP alliance.”
On the anti-registration factor against the DMK government, he said that even if someone assumes that it exists, it will be neutralized by the existence of Mr. Vijay’s TVK. “It’s similar to the party of actor Chiranjeevi [Praja Rajyam, since disbanded] In Andhra Pradesh, anti-registration votes were voted on [in 2009],” he added.
