India and New Zealand announced on Sunday (16 March 2025) that it had stalled in 2015 and resumed negotiations on the proposed free trade agreement.
India and New Zealand began negotiations on the Integrated Economic Cooperation Agreement (CECA) in April 2010 to promote trade in goods, services and investments. However, after nine rounds of discussions, negotiations stagnated in 2015.

“The two countries are pleased to announce negotiations for a comprehensive and mutually beneficial India-New Zealand Free Trade Agreement (FTA) negotiations,” the Ministry of Commerce said.
New Zealand Christopher Luxon made a four-day visit on March 16, and the news is of great significance.
The ministry made the announcement after a meeting between Business and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal and New Zealand Minister of Trade and Investment Todd McClay.
It said: “India, New Zealand FTA negotiations aim to achieve balanced outcomes to enhance supply chain integration and improve market access.”
