Sandeep Nanduri, managing director of Tamil Nadu Industrial Development Corporation (TIDCO), said preparations for urban logistics plans for Chennai and Coimbatore are underway.
At a conference on national logistics policy organized by TIDCO in partnership with the Madras Chamber of Commerce (MCCI), Mr. Sandep gave a well-crafted speech, according to which the multimodal logistics park (Phase 1), in Mappedu, near Chennai, will begin operations in 2027.
“MMLP Coimbatore land acquisition is in an advanced stage,” he said at a national logistics policy meeting organized by Tamil Nadu Industrial Development Corporation (TIDCO) in partnership with the Madras Chamber of Commerce (MCCI).
Container India Ltd. (Concor) will establish a net net environmental storage warehouse in Sriperumbudur near Chennai. “We chose the area mainly because we have land there, which is the electronic corridor in Tamil Nadu. We have 13,000 square feet of warehouse space in Sriperumbudur. The tender will be coming soon.”
“Our goal is that by April next year, we should be ready. The investment will be around Rs 6 billion. We are in talks with the multinationals in Sriperumbudur,” she said.
Tamil Nadu Industry Minister V Arun Roy said: “While the current logistics infrastructure is satisfactory, more work is needed to improve this, including addressing road congestion, reducing transportation time from industrial groups to ports, improving ports and improving ports and addressing gaps in cold chain infrastructure,” he said.
Ramkumar Shankar, managing director of Chemplast Sanmar Ltd and chair of the Madras Chamber of Commerce and Industry Conference, said: “Currently, McCi (MCCI) is conducting a study on the existing Chennai airport. There are many benefits at the airport. A lot of things have happened at the airport and there are certain restrictions on the government. We have also focused on a week of research. Now,” he added.
I. Jeyakumar, member secretary of Chennai Unified Metropolitan Transportation Authority (CUMTA), gave examples of the problem statement and what strategies can be used. One issue statement is that the movement of using LCVs and delivery trucks to wrap air to the airport is complicated, causing traffic congestion during peak hours and affecting passenger movement. He suggested that using Metrorail networks could be a strategy.
