Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy called on all parties, including the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), to fight the central government’s struggle, reportedly increasing the action in the Lok Sabha constituency by demarcating boundaries based on the population base.

Southern states will drop from 24% to 19%

Southern states that strictly follow population control measures will suffer losses if the center is allowed to move forward. Compared to the current 24% representation in Lok Sabha, if boundaries are made based on population, the percentage of southern states will drop to 19%.

Solution

“This is a planned attack on the South, and it is a shocking situation. Depending on the population, the center will be able to make any decisions without the consent of the southern states.” The Chief Minister addressed the General Assembly on Thursday (27 March 2025), a resolution expressing deep concern about the way the upcoming demarcation activities are conducted without any transparent consultation with stakeholders.

Solution

The resolution urges the Centre to ensure transparency in demarcation activities following extensive consultations with all state governments, all political parties and other stakeholders.

He recalled how former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi expressed concern that population-based demarcation would undermine friendship and cordial relations between countries. With that in mind, she took steps to freeze the number of Lok Sabha constituency for 25 years, and former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee extended it for 25 years in 2002.

“However, the government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi is adopting a double standard that takes a double standard towards demarcation on a population basis. Although some union ministers claim that there is no such meditation, we should not be complacent.”

Assembly seats for Telangana and AP are not yet enhanced: Revanth

He conducted a dig at the centre because they did not raise Telangana’s rally seat to 153, while Andhra Pradesh was guaranteed by the AP Reorganization Act 2014, which was 11 years later and passed 115 years. “When I asked questions in parliament, the Centre replied that demarcation would be carried out after the 2026 census,” he recalled. However, the same government accepted the constituency demarcation of Jamu & Kashmir and Sikkim to suit its political interests.

He recalled that the meeting convened by Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin demanded that the number of freezing constituency 543 should last for 25 years. Telangana will organize the next meeting of the southern states, where the action plan will evolve to oppose the center’s move.

He seeks support from all political parties to pass a unanimous resolution which will convey a strong message that the people cross politics and jointly protect the national interests. Interestingly, the resolution passed a vote by the opposition party that did not allow speeches.
