Congress claimed on Saturday (May 3, 2025) that Prime Minister Narendra Modi “continues to avoid” Manipur and Federal Interior Minister Amit Shah, a “big failure” in managing the situation in states that have been in racial conflict since 2023.

Congress Secretary General, Communications, Jairam Ramesh said the BJP formed a government in Manipur and in February 2022, and exactly two years ago today, sectarian violence broke out in the state.

“So, starting on May 3, 2023, is the self-provement, self-guided derailment of the state's so-called twin-engine Sarkar. Three months later, the Supreme Court was forced to declare that the state's constitutional machinery is absolutely the absolute collapse of the constitutional machinery.”

He said that in the face of a unconfidence motion from the Congress, the Modi government forced the CM to resign and finally implemented the president's rule within twenty months after the people's request.

“Political Game”

“The pain and suffering in Manipur are continuing. The political Olympics are playing. There is no worthwhile reconciliation process in progress. More than 60,000 internally displaced persons continue to live in relief camps under stressful conditions.”

“The most important thing is that the Prime Minister continues to avoid and avoid Manipur Province. He has met with anyone in the country. He has been around the world but has not found the time, tendency, nor the sensitivity to visit troubled countries and contact people there,” he said.

Mr Ramesh said the Prime Minister’s Interior Minister for Manipur’s administration was proved to be a “big failure”.

The Secretary General of Congress said: “Manipur Province deserves better. The people of Manipur are waiting for the Prime Minister to arrive in Iphar, extending around the beautiful state, at least within the scope of his ability to do so.”

More than 220 people have been killed since May 2023, and thousands have been left homeless, leaving homeless among the Metinis in the Istanil Valley and the adjacent hill kuki-zo group.
