Prime Minister Narendra Modi will connect Ramanasapuram with Rameswaram Island on April 6, 2025, on the occasion of Ram Navami.
After inspecting the Pamban Rail Bridge at Rs 53.1 crore, Southern Railway General Manager RN Singh told reporters on Wednesday (March 26) that the Prime Minister will hold a public meeting here at the opening ceremony.
He will also launch a new train service between Tambaram and Rameswaram. However, Mr Singh said the Prime Minister’s detailed planning timeline is not clear.
The general manager inspected the Rameswaram railway station that is underway for reconstruction, which he said will be completed in September this year.
In answering a question, Mr Singh said that it is technically impossible to move the entire old Pamban Rail bridge to save because it is in poor condition. However, he said the bridge will be demolished and part of it will be preserved.
Madurai District Railway Manager Sharad Srivastava and other senior railway officials accompanied the General Manager.
