Three people hold illegal mining of red sand in Jawadhu Hills

Aliyal police arrested three people on Saturday for illegal exploitation of red sand on government land in the village of Primedu near the foothills of Mount Jawadu, Velor.

Police said the arrested were identified as K. Prakash, 32, and V. Udayakumar, 40, of Pulimedu village, and C. Murugan, 28, of Athiyur village, which is located under Anaicut Taluk.

According to the alarm, a special police team led by Ariyur inspector S. Nagarajan was patrolling the area when they saw the gang’s sand mining on government land. When they saw the police, the gang tried to escape from the scene, but after a brief pursuit, the police caught them.

Police caught a truck, tractor, Earthmover (JCP) and 400 cubic feet of red sand beach. The initial investigation revealed that the gang was a red sand beach illegally mined by brick kiln units in the area. Over the years, more than 100 such units have operated in the area. Ariyur police registered a case. The arrested person was placed in the Central Prison in Velor. Detection is underway.
