Members of Congress from Wayanad Priyanka Gandhi Vadra welcomed the centre's recent announcement that caste enumeration will be included in the next census exercise in a transparent manner.
Congress leader made a two-day visit on Sunday (May 4, 2025) with her constituency visiting her district, which he said followed the strong public needs and ongoing efforts of those who support the cause.
She told reporters she told the inquiry: “My brother (Rahul Gandhi) solved the issue last year, and he agreed even while the BJP strongly opposed it.”
“He was even ridiculed for standing firmly on this issue,” she said.

Ms. Gandhi also said that the pressure from the people across the country seemed to have made a difference.
She also expressed hope that the government will conduct a correct caste survey by collecting accurate data.
