Production workshops to raise awareness about young drug addiction

Arrupe Sugalayam, affiliated to St. Joseph’s College in Tiruchi, is hosting a theatrical seminar with 21 amateur artists to raise drug awareness among young people in schools and universities.
As part of the outreach event from May 8 to 22, students from Chennai, Tiruchi, Tirunevilli and other cities formed a troupe called “Naram Nadi” under the guidance of Tamil film actor N. Shanmuga Raja.
“Our initial performance will be held at St. Joseph’s College from May 21 to 22, and then we plan to organize at least 150 performances in schools and universities across the city. Several performances will be held in other areas,” said Mr Shanmuga Raja. Hindu On Friday.

“The toilets in schools and universities are spread with abandoned smokeless tobacco products. Consumption is all in the shadows, just under the nose of adults. Teachers and agency administrators are not ready to deal with addiction among students. Earlier, the problem of alcoholism was a huge problem, but we easily spotted the visitors to these people. Symptoms and took the steps needed because they lack the scientific and empirical knowledge about addiction,” he said.

Mr Shanmuga Raja said: “We are training students on stage, dance and other aspects to create effective drama. Our daily meetings include interacting with people who have recovered from addiction. We will hold competitions in an open-air theater format with minimal props.”
