Real estate acquisitions have proven to be a major obstacle to several developments queued up in the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC), including the highly promoted Hyderabad City Innovation and Transformative Infrastructure (H-CITI) project.

According to a high-profile source, land acquisition awards have been ongoing for Rs 7,6 billion due to lack of funds. The award has been sent to the state government for sanctions, but no funding has been provided so far. The state government imposed administrative sanctions on the H-Citi project, which involves the construction of road infrastructure to address traffic congestion solutions at the city’s main junctions. The main part of the funding, Rs 11 billion raised, specifically to alleviate six traffic chaos near the Kasu Brahmananda Reddy National Park in Banjara Hills.

Due to the lack of right of way, several other open-circuit projects and NALA development projects have also been stagnated and can only be obtained through expropriation of land. According to official sources, nearly 300 properties have been identified for full or partial acquisitions to view the H-Citi project. Of these, about 190 properties are located between the junction of Article 12 and the junction of the Xi Nian Mountain Inspection Platform, where real estate prices are the highest in the city and can prove to be a cost of the Ministry of Finance.

GHMC authorities are trying to mix monetary compensation and transferable development rights to acquire these properties.
