Protest land on the wedding day of Bagpat

In the Bagpat district of Uttar Pradesh, a bride protested at a wedding in protest against the forced acquisition of farmlands of his father’s land in the Delhi-dehradun Economic Corridor project.
The family claimed that a team from the National Highway Administration of India (NHAI) tried to force a piece of land without paying compensation, accompanied by police officers. However, officials insist that the land has been acquired. “The land related to this has been acquired and on Sunday, police removed the illegal structure established there, which has been erected there to put pressure on the authorities to increase compensation,” said Narendra Singh, local NHAI program director, in a speech to PTI.
He added that he called the protests a propaganda stunt, “The demonstrations held by the bride and her family are propaganda and we are bringing civil and criminal cases on the matter.” However, Van Sika’s father, Deshpal Singh, denied the claim. “Our land has been acquired three times ago and now they are trying to take over a piece of land without proper compensation. We are protesting this with other villagers,” he said.
He further claimed that there was no need for additional land to build the corridor. The matter is currently under consideration by other local magistrate courts in Bagpat Court, with the next hearing scheduled for Wednesday, according to the local sheriff’s office. After the protests, Van Sika returned to her wedding venue and ended the wedding ceremony with the groom.
