Protests against the WAQF (Amendment) bill continued in West Bengal on Friday (11 April 2025) with students from Aliah University in Kolkata holding a rally to protest the WAQF (Amendment) bill and demanding its revocation. The demonstrations in Amta, 24 Parganas district in the south turned violent, with protesters attacking a police car, saying Sukanta Majumdar, chairman of the Bharatiya Janata party in West Bengal.

“In Amtala Chowrasta in Diamond Harbor, Muslim mobs protested against the WAQF bill destroying a police car in the vast sunlight,” said the BJP leader. In Kolkata, students at Aria University held protests in the Park Circus area, proposing slogans that should be withdrawn.
On Thursday (April 11, 2025) Governor and Jamiat-ee-ulema Hind Siddiqullah Chowdhury organized a major gathering in protest of the WAQF (Amendment) bill. The minister told the party that Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee called him and said that a motion would be filed in the state assembly against the WAQF (Amendment) bill. In violent protests against the WAQF Act (Amendment), the Chief Minister assured members of the minority community that she would protect her rights and land and asked them not to be “unsettled”.

Meanwhile, the situation in Mercidabad, which has violently exploded this week, remains tense. There are reports that BSF has been deployed in areas where violence is reported. BJP State President Sukanta Majumdar also claimed on social media that “several express trains were blocked, passengers were stranded, feared, and the railway site became a war zone”.

Leaders of opposition Suvendu Adhikari visited Mothabari in the Malda region on Friday, with a public conflict a few days ago.
“Today, I met and interacted with people affected and tried to address their concerns. The distressed people lost confidence in administration. I assured them of any possible support they could, including legal help, and arranged better medical facilities for victims.”
The opposition leader said in his speech to media sources that only the judiciary is a lawsuit against the people of the country and that no matter where there is an outbreak, the people should give up. Mr Adhikari also said that part of the “secular media” did not tell people what was going on in the state.
