Punjab police said on Monday (May 19, 2025) that they arrested two individuals for leaking key information about the Indian armed forces to Pakistan’s Inter-Service Intelligence (ISI).
The arrested persons were identified as resident of Adiyan village in Gurdaspur and Karanbir Singh, a resident of Chandu Wadala in Gurdaspur, said the police chief (DGP) Gaurav Yadav, Punjab. The police team also recovered three phones and eight live cartridges from the 30 phones it owns.
Mr Yadav said the Gurdaspur police had attempted to arrest the two people involved in sensitive military information related to the Sindoor operation, including leaking sensitive military information in Punjab, Himaal Pradesh and Jammu & Kashmir.
He said the preliminary investigation has confirmed that both defendants were directly in contact with ISI agents and transmitted key information about the Indian armed forces.
Police Senior Principal (SSP) Gurdaspur Aditya said on May 15 that reliable intelligence inputs indicate that the suspects share classification details related to defense and defense with ISI handlers. He said police acted quickly and the two suspects were under surveillance and arrested them.
He said that forensic examination of the cell phone has confirmed the intelligence input.
“During the investigation, it was also found that they had previously been involved in drug smuggling activities, through which they were engaged with ISI processors. Their financial transactions, including online and cash transactions, were also under scrutiny,” he said.
According to Article 3 of the Official Secret Act, BHARATIYA NYAYA SANHITA (BNS) and Article 152 of Article 25 of the Weapons Act have registered FIR in Dorangala.
