Putin hopes Ukraine does not need nuclear weapons

Russian President Vladimir Putin said in a comment on Sunday that the need for nuclear weapons in Ukraine has not emerged and he hopes will not.

In a preview of the upcoming interview with Russian state television, which will be published in the telegram, Putin said Russia has the power and means to bring Ukrainian conflict to a “logical conclusion.”

“There is no need to use those (nuclear) weapons…I hope they won't be asked,” Putin said in response to a question about Ukraine's strike on Russian territory.

“We have enough strength and means to bring the original things in 2022 to the logical conclusions that Russia demands,” he said.

Putin signed a modified version of Russian nuclear doctrine in November 2024, illuminating the ability to use the atomic Arsenal of Moscow, the largest in the world.

This version lowered the standard, and even traditional attacks powered by nuclear power provided him with this option.

Russia and Ukraine are at a contradiction in competing for a ceasefire proposal.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said in a public comment on Saturday on Friday that Moscow announced a 72-hour ceasefire in Ukraine next week to commemorate the victory day in World War II, just trying to create a “soft atmosphere” ahead of Russia's annual celebrations.

Zelenskyy updated, as the United States initially proposed, requiring a larger 30-day pause in hostilities. He said the proposed ceasefire could begin at any time, which is a meaningful step towards the end of the war.

Putin announced a unilateral 72-hour ceasefire in Ukraine on Monday to commemorate the victory day of World War II as the United States forces a deal to end the three-year-old war. The Kremlin said the truce was ordered on “humanitarian reasons” and would start from May 8 and last until the end of May 10 until Mark Moscow defeated Nazi Germany in 1945, Russia's largest secular holiday.

Meanwhile, Ukrainian Emergency Department Kyiv said on Sunday that 11 people were injured in the Russian drone attack with the Ukrainian capital overnight. There were two children in the injury.

The Ukrainian Air Force said Russia launched a total of 165 explosive drones and baits. 69 of them were intercepted, and the other 80 were lost, possibly blocked by electronics. Russia also launched two ballistic missiles.

The Russian Defense Ministry said air defense measures shot down 13 Ukrainian drones overnight.
