New Delhi: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi urges the Karnataka government to develop the Rohis Vimura Act to prevent discrimination against students based on caste.
Gandhi quoted his discussion with students in backward communities and recounted the narrative of Br Ambedkar’s narrative of caste discrimination he faced during his student days, and Gandhi wrote to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah in a letter dated April 16, “I know you would agree that what Br Ambedkar faces is shameful and that no child in India is ashamed of this cruel discrimination in our education system.”
The letter said: “…it’s time to end this. I urge the Karnataka government to enact the Rohis Vimula Act so that no child in India has to face Dr. Br Ambedkar, Rohit Vemula, Rohit Vemula and millions of people have to endure it.”
