Rahul Gandhi's pressure forces “stubborn” government to take action on caste census: Mallikarjun Kharge

Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge praised Rahul Gandhi on Friday and said opposition leaders showed that raising questions from the people honestly forced the government to respond, referring to the decision to hold a caste census in India decades later. He spoke at a meeting of the Congress Working Committee (CWC) in Delhi, which announced that the caste census will be part of the next census for poverty.
This will be the first time since the census that caste details have been included.
“Rahul Gandhi proves that if we honestly raise people’s questions, this stubborn government must surrender,” Haji said in a speech to the party leader.

Congress heads said they raised concerns about the timing of the government’s caste census, saying the party was surprised by the sudden shift in its central position. “We were surprised by the timing of the government's choice to accept our need for the caste census and raised concerns,” Karger said.

He further called on party members to focus on the caste census issue, highlighting its importance in the party's broader agenda. “We must be vigilant to take the question of the caste census as a reasonable conclusion,” he said. Meanwhile, Kharge criticized the government for not providing clear plans to respond when talking about the terrorist attacks in Pahalgam. “Even a few days after the Pahargam attack, the government has no clear strategy,” he said.
