Rain and thunderstorms in Tamil Nadu; IMD warns several areas

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued warnings in parts of Tamil Nadu, warning of rain, thunderstorms and lightning, and forecasts to predict moderate rainfall in several areas.

The Chennai Regional IMD Centre on Saturday reminded residents that it is recommended to exercise caution as weather conditions can cause flooding, slippery roads and traffic disruptions in certain areas.

IMD has predicted rainfall in the Nilgiris, Coimbatore, Tiruppur and Nagapattinam regions as well as Karaikal regions.
The update for the weather department was released at 1:00 pm this afternoon and also includes rain expectations for other areas such as Theni, Tenkasi, Ramanathapuram and Kanyakumari.

Heavy rain in Tiruppur and Kanyakumari

Heavy rain was seen in the Thirup district, causing water to enter the residence. Local municipal workers have been working hard to drain the flood. The north of Tirupur recorded 11 cm of rain, while the Kozhiporvilai station in Kanyakumari was even higher.

Other regions, such as Nambiyur and Kavundapadi in Erode, and Sulur in Coimbatore, each receives about 8 cm.
In the Ramanathapuram area, rainfall ranges from 1 cm to 7 cm, and the Rameswaram station has the highest speed at 7 cm. Locations such as Kadaladi, Mudukulatur and Mandapam are between 1-2 cm of rainfall.
IMD warns that ongoing weather conditions could lead to disruption to local infrastructure, especially in terms of transportation. As rain continues and possible thunderstorms, roads may become slippery and water supply may cause delays.
In addition to Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Puducherry and parts of the surrounding areas have experienced similar weather patterns.

While some areas face heavy rain, temperatures have dropped significantly in others, with intakes reportedly below the seasonal average of 2-5 degrees Celsius.
