Rajinikanth reviews Retro, calling Suriya's performance “super” in the Karthik Subbaraj movie: “The last 40 minutes are…”
Rajinikanth collaborated with Karthik Subbaraj to produce the 2019 film Petta and now appreciates the latest film Retro from the filmmaker’s latest film Suriya.
Rajinikanth praises Suriya's retro
The Tamil romantic action movie Retro, starring Suriya and Pooja Hegde, was released in cinemas on May 1 and is open to mixed reviews from audiences and critics. Director Karthik Subbaraj now reveals that superstar Rajinikanth loves his films and he calls Suriya's performance “super”.
Karthik Subbaraj wrote on the X-Timeline: “Thalaivar looks at #ReTro, he loves it…The exact word of Thalaivar…'The effort of the whole team…Suriya Performance Suriya Performance Super…The last 40 minutes of the movie. The last 40 minutes of the movie is super…Laughter touch…The laughter is amazing. The filmmaker directed Rajinikanth in the 2019 action drama Petta.
Meanwhile, the director said in an interview with Hollywood Reporter India that after the retro, he is considering the next independent film. “I haven't done that yet. After Doublex (Jigarthalda doublex) itself, I think I should make an independent film. Make a movie and then send it to the festival, and a year later, release it in the theater. I've got a script ready, but it's retro. Now, I want to do that.”
Raghava Lawrence and SJ Suryah for the 2023 action drama Jigarthanda Doublex. This is a prequel to Karthik's second director Jigarthanda, released in 2014 and starring Siddharth and Bobby Simha. Both films are considered one of the best Tamil films in the 21st century.

In addition to Suriya and Pooja Hegde, the film returns to Retro, playing Joju George, Jayaram, Nassar, Karunakaran, Swasika and Prakash Raj, playing positions. The Santhosh Narayanan musical is funded by Karthik Subbaraj and Suriya themselves, their banner stone bench creation and 2D Entertainment.
