Ramesh Chennithala attempts to be listed in PIL to eliminate rules erased from educational institutions

Ramesh Chennithala of the MLA has filed a petition requesting a petition in the Public Interest Litigation (PIL) which seeks to prompt the government to reevaluate the directive of the 1998 Banning of Rags (Kerala) Act and constitutes rules to ensure that Ragging rules are eliminated from educational institutions.

He said the rags in educational institutions were closely related to the availability of drugs and other contraband, and he argued that it would be ineffective to resolve the riots in isolation without taking measures to curb drugs. He further said that the extended political patronage to students was a major factor in the increase in rags and drug use. Instead of gaining academic and administrative support, those who oppose such activities are often punished by the state government because the defendant students have political affiliation with the ruling assignment, Mr Chennithala said.

PIL in this regard was proposed by Kerala Legal Services Agency (Kelsa). At a previous hearing, the High Court directed the State Government to form a multidisciplinary working group to draft comprehensive rules for the effective implementation of the bill. The petition will be considered on Wednesday.
