An official said on Saturday (May 3, 2025) that the main defendant was arrested for raping and extorting some female students from Bhopal University, who allegedly tried to escape from the detention center by robbing police pistols, was shot and injured.

The incident occurred Friday night when the defendant was taken to the crime scene to collect evidence, the official said.

So far, five defendants have been arrested for allegedly raping female students and have made videos to blackmail their identities and blackmail them.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Priyanka Shukla said the main defendant Farhan Ali said he had lived in Bilkisganj's room with another accused Abrar.

She said personnel from Ashoka Garden Police Department took Farhan to Bilquisganj to collect evidence on Friday night.

The official said when they arrived at the village of Salva in the Ratabad Police Department area, the defendant said he wanted to attend the nature call and stopped the police car.

She said Farhan allegedly tried to steal a pistol from a deputy inspector, and during the melee, the weapon was shot.

Shukla said the defendant suffered a leg injury and was taken to the hospital and he was being treated.

DCP said that under Article 64 (rape), Article 61 (gang rape) and other relevant provisions of Bharatiya Nyay Nyay Sanhita (BNS), registrations were conducted against Farhan Ali and other alleged cases.

Ashoka Garden Police Department Supervisor Hemant Shrivastava said Farhan was taken to Bilkisganj to find another accused Abrar and collect evidence.

He said Fahan tried to evade custody by snatching the pistol, adding that the two policemen were also injured in the incident.

On April 25, city police had a video of three female students in private colleges claiming they were raped and blackmailed. Later, another girl filed a complaint.

According to officials, the complainant claimed that the defendant raped them after hiding his identity and extorting them with video.

On Friday night, Hindu teams held protests in 26 places in Bhopal, calling it a serious incident of “Love Holy War”.

Chief Minister Mohan Yadav said the state government will not tolerate “jihad or lovejihad” in the state and criminals will not be spared.

The National Council of Women (NCW) made up a three-member inquiry committee led by IPS official and former Jharkhand police chief Nirmal Kaur.
