RBI announces lieutenant governor's portfolio: who handles what

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) on Friday officially released the latest portfolio allocations for its four lieutenant governors, thus introducing key responsibilities of sectors that are crucial to India's financial and monetary system.M Rajeshwar Rao will be responsible for oversight and law enforcement, and will be responsible for oversight and law enforcement. He also serves as a coordinating role in the Secretariat, Risk Monitoring Department and overall policy coordination.
T Rabi Sankar is assigned a wide variety of operational and technology-driven portfolios. These include payments and settlement systems, fintech sectors, foreign exchange departments, information technology and central security units. He also manages government-related accounts and external investment operations, highlighting his role in digital and cross-border financial management.
Swaminathan Janakiraman focuses on oversight and consumer-centric functions, leading the Ministry of Oversight, Consumer Education and Protection, and Deposit Insurance and Credit Guarantee Companies. His portfolio also covers financial inclusion, inspection, Rajbhasha and venue sectors.

The latest contestant, Poonam Gupta, will be responsible for macroeconomic policies and exchanges. She is responsible for key analytical and strategic wings, including the Department of Monetary Policy, Economic and Policy Research, Financial Stability and International, and oversees the Department of Communications and Corporate Strategy and Budget.


This strategic division of responsibility is designed to improve the efficiency of the Reserve Bank of India in terms of dynamic challenges of financial regulation, technological innovation and macroeconomic stability.
