Regional collectors outline multi-billion dollar development plans for Chirala constituency

Bapatra Regional Collector J. Venkata Murali directed officials to speed up development activities in the Chirala constituency and transform its beaches into a thriving tourist destination on April 21. During a review meeting with district-level officials held in the Chirala Municipal Office, the collector stressed the need for rapid implementation of the works, and later he inspected the local crematorium.

He announced that Rs 100 crore will be used under Jal Jeevan’s mission to permanently resolve the drinking water problem in Chirala, while an additional Rs 60 crore has approved rural drinking water supply through RWS. Under the MGNREGA plan, the maintenance of five reported irrigation plans and development work worth Rs 8.22 crore is also underway, with an additional expenditure planned for Rs 1.75 crore.

To enhance the tourism industry, collectors say Rs 2 crore from the Regional Mineral Fund (DMF) and another Rs 2 crore from various plans will be used for beach development. The plan includes a fishing port of Rs 15 billion, an improved sewage system, a spending of Rs 15 crore, and Bio-Toilets in Vadarevu and Ramapuram Beaches.

Chirala MLA M. Mala Kondaiah’s encroachment on drainage, crematoriums and cemeteries, loan tampering, poverty-stricken roads and power disruptions have caused concerns. He seeks new canals for housing for the poor as well as the construction of handloom parks and sub-stations. Plans to train 3,000 women to tailor are also underway.
