The victim’s relatives said the family’s trip to a happy holiday time turned into a tragedy and nothing more sad.
Nathaniel was appointed as manager of the Indian Life Insurance Company (LIC) of Alirajpur in Madhya Pradesh, about 200 km from Indore.
His cousin Sanjay Kumrawat told PTI, “We have spoken to Sushil Nathaniel’s wife and son over the phone. They told us that terrorists asked Sushil’s name and forced him to knee down, they then asked him to recite the Kalma (phrase articulating Islamic faith). When Sushil said that he could not recite Kalma, the terrorists shot him.’Kumravat said that the terrorists shot Nathaniel’s daughter Akanksha (35) in the leg when she ran towards him after fear of seeing a bullet shoot at her father.
He said Akanksha is looking for treatment and Kashmir.
“The strictest actions are taken against terrorists who have killed 26 innocent people by carrying out cowardly attacks in Kashmir in order to set an example for the whole world,” Kumrawat said.
He said their grieving family was confident in the Narendra Modi government.
The deceased’s cousin, Indu Dawar, also claimed that according to their family at the site of the incident, the terrorists shot and opened Sushil Nathaniel after asking about his religious identity.
“Suhir went to Kashmir with his family. We hope justice and the killer should be punished the most severely,” she said.
Nathaniel’s daughter Akanksha (35) was shot dead in the attack and she was being treated in Jamu and Kashmir.
Daval said Nathaniel also accompanied his wife Jennifer (54) and their son Austin Goddy (25) during the terrorist attacks. She added that the mother and son survived but they were in a state of shock.
Gemma Vikas, another relative of Nathaniel, said officials who died in the terrorist attack went to Kashmir with their families on the occasion of Easter.
“There is nothing more sad than this fact, that is, the happiness of tourists who attend festival trips becomes mourning. We hope that the government will hunt down and eliminate terrorists immediately,” she said.
Indore collector Ashish Singh contacted Nathaniel’s relatives and assured them all possible help from the state government.
“Chief Minister Mohan Yadav has been seeking information about the Nathaniel family. The state government has been in contact with Jamu and Kashmir governments,” he said.
Singh added that Nathaniel’s body will be taken from Srinagar to Indore by Air and his daughter, who was injured in the terrorist attack.
