The grand event in 2004 shocked India with CR budget of 500

One of the most luxurious weddings in India ever took place not in Delhi, Mumbai or Bangalore, but in Lucknow City. In February 2004, Subrata Roy, founder and chairman of Sahara India Pariwar, held a double wedding for his sons Sushanto and Seemanto Roy, a sum reportedly shocked the country and remains remembered 20 years later.

The wedding took place over six days and welcomed over 11,000 guests, including star-studded politicians, celebrities, business tycoons and royals. According to a 2004 article by Guardian, this “week of the century” is unparalleled in scale and luxury with a fascinating blend of Indian tradition and modern luxury. Bollywood superstars attending the conference, such as Amitabh Bachchan, Shah Rukh Khan and Aishwarya Rai, while political leaders including Mulayam Singh Yadav and Anil Ambani were spotted during the celebration.

The venue is no less than a dream. According to India Today, a replica of world-renowned architectural wonders has been established, including the White House, the Hans Andersen-style fairytale palace, Greek temples and Rajput Fort, creating a surreal atmosphere for wedding celebrations. Chefs from Taj Group of Taj Hotels have prepared over 110 cuisines from around the world.

As Silicon India reports, despite its grand grandeur, the family is also focused on giving back. Amidst the main event, the Sahara Group organized a large-scale wedding of 101 poor couples. In addition, during the Wedding Week, food was distributed across India to 1.4 million people in need.

The performances were also spectacular, and were choreographed in entertainment by musical compositions from Shiamak Davar’s dance troupe and the British Symphony Orchestra, which sets a new benchmark for Indian celebrations.

Even after 21 years, the wedding is still a topic of pure scale, social outreach and luxury. The fusion of wealth and philanthropy left a lasting impression on it, marking it as one of the most iconic weddings in Indian history.
