Rohit Sharma

The 38-year-old is India's most prolific test batsman in the second half of his career, scoring 4,301 in 67 Tests, an average of 40.57, and 1,200 and 18 centuries of games in 67 Tests.

After last year's World Cup, Rohit has retired from the T20 international competition and can now only appear in the form of an Indian ODI.

“Hello everyone, I want to share that I am going to retire from Test cricket. It is an absolute honor to represent my country as white.

“Thank you for all your love and support over the years. I will continue to represent India in ODI format,” he posted a photo of the test hat after the PTI news release on Instagram.

Rohit won the Indian captain in the World Test Championship final against Australia and saved the last few indifferent series at home against New Zealand and the border against Australia.

India will host a new test captain in five test series in England, with potential candidates being Jasprit Bumrah, Kl Rahul, Shubman Gill and Rishabh Pant.

Rohit encountered a particularly difficult run during the Border-Gavaskar trophy, having to get out of the game due to his poor form, but he ruled out retirement at that stage.

There are also widespread speculations about his disagreement with head coach Gautam Gambhir, who vowed to end the “star culture” of Indian cricket after taking charge in July last year.

Both sides firmly deny chat, but Gambill has shown time and time again that only performance can ensure the team's choice.
