Indian captain Rohit Sharma announced he retired from Test cricket on Wednesday, May 7. He announced the decision via social media, noting that he will still play in ODI cricket in India.

The decision marks the conclusion of Rohit Sharma's longest 11-year career, during which he participated in 67 Tests and led the team in 23 games after taking over as Captain Virat Kohli in 2022. Rohit has won a total of 4,302 runs throughout his career, including 12 centenary.
Rohit's journey in Test cricket began with a setback in 2010 when he was due to make his debut in the Nagpur Test against South Africa, but suffered an inappropriate injury before tossing. It was not until three years later that he finally made his debut in the Kolkata test of the West Indies in 2013, where he announced the arrival of a century. In the following tests in Mumbai, he continues to be impressed with another century.
Despite several highs, Rohit faced challenges over five years, and he worked hard to have a significant impact on the format. However, his fate changed when he was promoted to a blow to South Africa in 2019, resulting in two centuries of Ranchi and two hundred. He further demonstrated his superb performance against England in 2021, making his abilities stand out, resulting in an inexperienced side that won the series.
However, the performance in the 2024-25 season fell, with only more than 50 results in 13 innings, resulting in his average drop. His captain record also suffered from India's defeat against New Zealand and lost the pink Adelaide Test. Despite the challenges, India has won a 12-8 loss record under his leadership.
