Former all-rounder Moeen Ali said Indian strike stamina Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli in the Test series in England would give the owner a “huge boost” and added that Shubman Gill could be the team for next month’s tough five-game tour.
Rohit and Virat announced their retirement from Test cricket, who left India with no two of the most experienced players participating in the series, which is also the beginning of the 2025-2027 World Test Championship cycle.
The series will begin with an opening test at Headingley on June 20.
“Of course, I think it’s a huge push for England. Two top players who have travelled to England a few tours, so they have experience. I remember Rohit (Rohit). [are]both of them were captains of India in Test cricket, so yes, it caused a huge loss to the team. Sky movement.
Moeen took 68 tests and demonstrated his all-around ability, earned over 3,000 runs and ran over 200 wickets with his spin ability, adding that while he didn’t have the longest Indian captain, Jill was a “very good” option to lead India.
After Rohit retired from Test cricket, Gill became the leader in leading India, who never served as captain of India in the longest form or ODI.
“I think it’s going to be Shubman Gill. Ideally, they [BCCI] Hopefully Jasprit Bumrah is the captain because he is a very good captain and a good leader he has been before. ”
“But he may not be able to last the entire series due to his injury record, and I think they will give it [captaincy] For someone who has done a great job in testing cricket so far. Gill leads Gujarat Titans in the IPL, so they still have a very, very good captain, inexperienced, but a good captain and a good brain, but it will be a challenge [in England conditions],” Moon said.
Moeen believes that if he becomes Captain Jill, he should be prepared for the first challenge in British conditions.
“England is a challenge for anyone and it’s a very, very difficult challenge when you first take the captain. So, I think the signs of England participating in the series look good, but I will never underestimate India or their ability to bats, especially.”
“But they have great players, they don’t have obvious experience playing in England, and that’s what you need in England. I think it’s a good opportunity for England.”
Moeen called Kohli a “pioneer” in Test cricket, adding that his crowd’s ability is second only to Sachin Tendulkar.
“It is [Kohli’s retirement] Huge blow to test cricket. He is a pioneer, a man who often pushes format cricket. Amazing player, amazing career.
“He did a lot of things for the game itself, especially in India. I think after Sachin [Tendulkar]he was the one who everyone came to watch, and he filled in the stadium. Amazing record and an excellent player. The style he played with (WAS) was also very competitive and excellent captain. Testing the big blow to cricket. ” he said.
