Ammonia leaks at Madhya Pradesh factory, workers move

Officials said on Wednesday (April 9, 2025) that an ammonia leak at a factory in Madhya Pradesh affected some people and caused panic, prompting authorities to transfer workers from the unit.
The incident occurred at around 10:30 p.m. Tuesday in the town of Chora in the area, after which police, fire brigade and government authorities rushed to the scene and stopped the leak.

Divisional magistrate (SDM) Trilochan Gaud said the ammonia leak occurred at the Porwal Ice Factory in Jaora town.
Police Chief Amit Kumar said: “On the surface, it was an ammonia leak. The police and the government immediately sprinkled water, stopped the gas leak and controlled the situation.”
Some affected people were treated, he said.
There is a police line near the factory. Some policemen who were strolling at night felt the gas leak first and acted as first responders, the official said.
Gaode said the gas leak was quickly discovered, which was not a big event.
He said the workers at the factory moved immediately.
The fire brigade immediately controlled the gas leak by spraying water, SDM said, adding that the situation is currently under control.
