RTC officials, not drivers, will be held responsible for accidents due to technical obstacles

Transport Minister Ramalinga Reddy said as a measure to curb accidents involving road transport companies (RTC) buses, “technical department officials, department controllers and related unit managers will be held responsible for accidents caused by technical issues”.

He spoke on Monday after issuing an appointment order to the 2286 Bengaluru Metropolitan Transportation Company (BMTC) operator.

Recalling, he said the driver who lost his leg in an accident provided relief for Rs 2.5 lakh, he said he realized he had no money to bring back a happy life. He advises drivers to drive with more patience, caution and responsibility. “The operator should convince the driver to slow down and be careful,” he said.

“In some cases, the condition of a bus/technical failure may be the cause of a bus accident. We should also note this, carelessness and negligence of the officers and supervisors of the technical department are the cause. From now on, not the drivers, technical department officials, department officials and related unit managers will be responsible for the technical issues,” he said. ”
