Sacred Trails: Telangana tourists flock to the temples and heritage of Madhya Pradesh

A large number of visitors from Telangana have been keeping a line with the “Heart of India” (Madhya Pradesh (MP)), which are favored by temples and other pilgrimage centers between many states and other states, thanks to road and air connectivity between states, as well as improved facilities

Although the MPs are home to more than a dozen famous pilgrimage centers, the Mahakaleshwar Temple and Kal Bhairav Temple in Ujain and the Omkareshwar Temple are still the most popular people in Telangana. “Usually, travelers from Telangana prefer the Indore track (spiritual destination) composed of Jyotirlingas. They land in Indore and then cover the entire circuit. Flight connectivity between Hyderabad and Indore is good.

“In view of the various needs of tourists, we focus on custom packages. We design packages based on the number of visitors, stay time, visit time and transportation methods. However, we can assure visitors of affordable accommodation in our hotels and resorts. The favorite mode of transportation is cars and minibus, as both states are well connected via national highways,” the official added.

Madhya Pradesh State Tourism Development Corporation (MPSTDC) provides visitors with a range of amenities including hotel rooms, restaurants, resorts and cabins in almost all major tourist destinations. “We operate over 170 hotels, including three-star properties. Visitors can book rooms through our website: https://mpstdc.mponline.gov.in. In addition, we offer homestays in many designated rural areas, allowing visitors to experience rural life and taste homemade food,” said MPSTDC officials.

Madya Pradesh has a variety of history, with three UNESCO World Heritage Sites – architectural wonders such as the temple of Khajuraho, the stupa of Sanchi and the rock sanctuary of Bhimbetka.

The 51st Khajuraho Dance Festival (KDF) recently held from 20 to 26 February attracted thousands of domestic and foreign tourists to Khajuraho, which is connected by Air and Rail in Delhi. KDF-2025’s dance performance set a Guinness World Record for the longest classical dance marathon, with 139 artists performing for 24 hours in a row.

Officials say domestic and international tourists from the U.S. and European countries flock to each year. However, locals have lagged behind in foreign tourists until now, and since the pandemic on the 19th, the footsteps of foreign tourists have not yet surfaced.

Government Chief Secretary Tourism Industry and Madhya Pradesh Tourism Commission Managing Director Sheo Shekhar Shukla hopes that they hope they focus on the ever-expanding tourism infrastructure, promoting cultural heritage, and leveraging digital marketing strategies will certainly help them attract more domestic and international tourists.

Several historical fortresses, such as the 6th-century Gwalior Fort and the 17th-century palaces in Orchha, as well as hill stations such as Pachmarhi, continue to attract heritage tourists. The state’s national parks, including Panna and Pench, are home to big cats and other wildlife. “Our state is known as Tiger State, Leopard State, Cheetah State and Condor. The demand for jungle safari is high, and visitors usually need to book tickets two to three months in advance,” an official said. Meanwhile, movie tourism, adventure tourism and wildlife tourism are also booming among members of Congress, who account for more than 30% of forest cover.

The Betwa River, which flows with the Heritage City Park, offers an adventurous rafting experience, in addition to providing a great opportunity to enjoy the amazing sights of the city from different angles.

Meanwhile, the variety of culinary landscapes at Madhya Pradesh offer coveted options. Different regions of the state, including Bagelkhand, Bhopal, Bundelkhand and Malwa, showcase their unique flavor and expertise to meet the needs of vegetarians and meat lovers.
