Before the consultation, in an open letter to Londoners, the London branch that protects rural England argued that “building more homes, especially high-cost homes on green belt land, cannot solve the housing crisis”. The team noted that around 300,000 homes in London had “planned permissions but not yet established,” which they said suggests that the planning system itself should not be blamed.
