Virat Kohli informs BCCI’s decision to retire from test cricket: Report

Star Indian cricketer Virat Kohli has reportedly notified the BCCI that he intends to retire from the Test cricket match.

According to a report by Espncricinfo, Kohli’s decision to retire from Test cricket was not sudden. He has been in conversation with BCCI officials for the past month or so.

Kohli scored 9,230 times in 123 tests, with an average of 46.85. However, his recent test format has dropped significantly. Over the past five years, Kohli has scored only three centuries in 39 Test matches he has played.

Reports show that Kohli has been considering retirement since the December 2024 Border-Gavasca Trophy. BCCI has been urging him not to get out of the longest format of the game, but the former captain appears firm in his decision.

The development comes as Indian captain Rohit Sharma retired from Test cricket ahead of the Test Series in England on Wednesday.

“Hello everyone, I want to share that I am going to retire from Test cricket. It is an absolute honor to represent my country as a white man. All my love and support over the years. I will continue to represent India in the ODI format,” Rohit Sharma posted Rohit Sharma on his Instagram Story.

Earlier, Kohli and Rohit announced their retirement from the T20 international competition after the 2024 T20 World Cup. If Kohli did a test retire, both batsmen would only work for ODI.
