Due to the recent military strike in Pakistan, the country’s cricket committee convened an emergency meeting to consider the future of the ongoing Pakistani Premier League. The T20 League has six franchises and a range of international players, and is currently in Rawalpindi, with the final match set to take place in Lahore on May 18.
Reliable sources within the board indicate that the PCB will seek guidance from the government regarding the continuation of the alliance. Further discussions on the matter are scheduled to take place later today.
“Since Wednesday, especially in the UAV attacks in Punjab Province, the meeting will review the situation,” the source told PTI.
“A PSL match in Rawalpindi was cancelled after a drone attack, shocking foreign players. The match is tonight. Now, many are looking to leave the country as soon as possible. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) will decide after consulting with the government,” a former Pakistan Cricket told IANS.
PSL CEO Salman Naseer recently called up with Rawalpindi’s overseas players to provide assurance in the current situation. He stressed that PCBs are working to monitor the situation and alleviate any concerns they may have.
Notable international players such as David Warner, Jason Holder (Islamabad United) and Rassie van der Dussen (Islamabad United) have been committed to participating in the league, demonstrating high-quality talents to win the game.
PCB spokesman Amir Mir said: “It was natural to discuss the current situation.
He added: “There are surgical strikes on both sides of the border, but we don’t want this to affect PSL. However, things do escalate if God forbids it and we’ll sit together to decide what’s next.”
After a successful missile strike at nine Pakistan sites aimed at dismantling terrorist infrastructure, India announced Thursday that it blocked the Pakistani military’s attempt to target several military devices in northern and western India using drones and missiles.
