Controversial unreleased books by Schiff Senna (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut Narkatala Swarg (Heaven in Hell) Several claims were made about Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Interior Minister Amit Shah, which caused a stir on Friday (May 16, 2025). The Ruling Alliance and the Balatia Janata Party (BJP) criticized Mr Laut and suggested that he stick to the “facts”.

In this book, he claims that Shiv Sena chief late Balasaheb Thackeray and NCP-S-SP chief Sharad Pawar helped Mr Modi and Mr Shah when they were in political and legal troubles, but “both of them were ungrateful”. “During the riots in Gujarat in 2002, Mr. Modi, former Chief Minister of Gujarat, is about to be arrested. Mr. Pawar opposed the arrest because he was the elected CM, thus covering him up.” Mr. Laut added that Mr. Pawar might have spoken the facts.

Mr Raut made similar charges against Mr Shah, saying he reached out to Balasaheb Thackeray when he opposed bail at the trial in the murder case. Mr Rat recalled that Mr Thackeray personally called on Shah’s bail. Mr Lauter believes that Mr Shah is responsible for the division of the undivided Shiv Sena and said: “That’s how he repays the Thackeray family.”

The book further claims that despite the goodwill of Modi-Shah’s leaders benefiting from the goodwill of Mr. Thackeray and Mr. Pawar, they later opposed them and the institutions that once stood by them. Mr Lauter pointed out that although the mainstream media has now become mostly pro-Modi, Balasaheb Thackeray was one of the few who supported Mr Modi, when most political forces and media opposed him.

Explosive claims

His book makes some of these explosive claims, including the media being pro-Mody. Mr. Lauter wrote a book about his imprisonment after being arrested for allegedly involved in a financial scam. The book revolves around investigation and its release. He also said: “More revelations will sweep the state.”

The BJP leader dismissed Mr Raut’s claim. “His words don’t make sense,” said BJP leader Chitra Wagh. “Whatever he writes will not affect the Maharashtra of chattrapati shivaji maharaj.”

Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said in Mr Raut: “I no longer read novels and children’s books; they are no longer interested. Narkatla Swarg to Narkatla Raut (Raut in Hell).

Meanwhile, BJP leader and Fisheries Minister Nitesh Rane suggested that he state the facts and complete the book. “He forgot a few pages; during this case he did not include all the lang language he used for the Thackeray family, not his feelings for Balasaheb. If he wrote all the facts, Uddhav Thackeray would take him to hell,” Mr Rane said.
