Sanjay’s family relaxed after the holiday and had a pleasant place. But when they opened the front door, something terrible was waiting for them…

A young Australian family has returned home from a holiday overseas and found their rent broke into the house by the shanty town – they made it out with $45,000 worth of personal belongings after completely destroying the house.

Sanjay’Jay’Kuikel, 32, moved his family from Darwin to Shepparton, Victoria in 2024, in a junior doctor role, hoping to change pace and safer areas.

After briefly working at a Shepoldon Hospital accommodation, the couple moved to the rental property with their three-year-old daughter and one-year-old son.

But when they returned from Nepal for four weeks on May 3, they found that their home was not only living among strangers, but also “robbed” by a stranger.

“We were back at 7.30 pm and it was dark. When we opened the door, the guy sat there, smoking marijuana, eating pizza and watching TV. ” he said.

“He said it was his house and he lived there.”

Mr. Cooke told the Daily Mail Australia that he was “shocked and shaken” and closed the door, bringing his 30-year-old wife Nilima and their children to the neighbors.

“I immediately thought, “Well, who is this guy? Will he attack us? Will he attack my child? “All of these horrifying feelings,” he said.

In a video shot by Mr. Cooke while investigating the damage, he can see his clothes ripped from his closet in at least three bedrooms.

There is also a cigarette butt in the living room, a bucket of medical marijuana flowers in the kitchen, and alcohol balanced on a high chair.

He also accused jewelry, kitchen supplies and clothing of theft while retrieving his belongings, with an estimated loss of $45,000 in total – despite three locks between the front door and the safe.

“We have about 300 grams of gold (jewelry), about 100 grams (of which) are our wedding, and the rest is saved,” he said.

Mr Kuikel said the family could not afford content insurance or store jewelry in a bank’s secure box due to the high fees.

He said the break-in was an emotional loss to his family, and his three-year-old daughter “scared a stranger who might enter the house.”

“I have to work at night, sometimes on the call… it’s not easy to leave my family alone,” he said.

Mr. Kuykel returned to the property at least four times to restore his ability, but claimed that the man was often still in the house.

He said the property owner changed the lock of the house, but the next day, the lock was changed again, allegedly this time in the shanty town.

Victoria police told the Daily Mail that Australian police participated in the property on Balaclava Road, Shepterton on May 3 and “found the house was looted.”

They arrested a 47-year-old man without a fixed address and were later released. He is expected to be summoned.

“The victim informed police that valuable jewelry had been stolen and property that did not belong to them was taken into their homes,” a statement said.
